Federal prosecutors have pulled the plug on Megaupload, a massive file sharing operation allegedly operated by Alicia Keys' husband, producer Swizz Beatz.
Four executives were arrested in New Zealand and an indictment charging seven people with content piracy causing $500 million in losses was issued.
Maybe Swizz Beatz was the first big artist to believe in the power of internet file-sharing sites to promote artists. I believe that Megaupload was shut down because the world saw how it was able to promote indies artists without the greedy corporations behind their back. But I hope Swizz doesn't get the short end of the stick in this situation...
